Inlays and onlays are conservative tooth restorations that are usually made of porcelain or a composite resin. They are used to repair a cavity or decay, or to replace an existing, failing filling. One of the benefits of inlays and onlays is that they require less tooth preparation (drilling) for the restoration to be cemented in place. This allows you to keep more of your healthy tooth structure and help keep your tooth strong.

An inlay is a smaller restoration and it is used to restore inside the cusps of the teeth; an onlay is a bigger restoration that extends over one or more cusps of the tooth.
