Gum Disease And Periodontal Therapy
Keep Your Gums Healthy
And Keep Your Teeth for Your Lifetime
Periodontal health has always been important. Healthy gums are essential to healthy teeth. If your gums become diseased, you can lose the bone support around your teeth causing your teeth to become loose and even eventually leading to the loss of teeth.
But recent studies have proven that not only are your teeth at risk when you have gum disease; your life is, too.
Studies have linked the bacteria associated with gum disease to an increased risk of:
- Heart attack
- Stroke
- Cancers (including pancreatic cancer)
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Difficulty controlling blood sugar levels in diabetics
- Inflammation
- Premature birth
- Low birth-weight babies
At every hygiene visit, we will conduct a periodontal exam. If we detect any periodontal disease, a course of gum therapy will be recommended. Therapy will clear away any bacteria under the gum line and help your gum reattach to your tooth root to restore your gums to health.
